National Highway Sector Schemes

(NHSS)

Are bespoke integrated management schemes that have been developed by the Highways Agency to make sure people working on motorways and other roads have a trained and competent workforce.

Sector Schemes are designed to:

  • Provide an industry benchmark
  • Ensure that all processes are planned
  • Provide a basis for continous improvement
  • Focus on quality as an objective
  • Reduce overall costs for the client and supplier
  • Provide and maintain a property trained and competent workforce
  • Promote confidence in quality management systems by provision of a robus, transparent system.

If you are working on the motorways and other roads then there may well be a scheme that applies to your activities. There are over 20 schemes covering activities such as ashpalt laying, traffic management, fencing, electrical services etc. More new schemes are currently being developed.

As a supplier of such services you will need to comply with these requirements as well as ISO 9001 through a Highways Agency approved certification body.

Global QA consultants are currently assisting a number of organisations to implement National Highway Sector Schemes in conjunction with implementing and achieving Government approved certification to ISO 9001.
